Princeton High School District recognizes the importance of end-of-year activities for students, parents, family members, and faculty to celebrate the accomplishments of our students. We appreciate the patience and feedback we’ve received during the time it has taken us to plan for these important events. On Wednesday, April 29, State Superintendent of Schools, Carmen Ayala, announced that no in-person or drive-through graduations can take place during this time. She stated,

“We need to remember that no matter how devastating it feels to miss these sacred rites of spring, the health and safety of our students, families, and communities must remain our top priority.

Therefore, in-person graduation ceremonies of any kind are not allowed at this time. This directive extends to drive-through graduation ceremonies or events where students come in small groups to the school or another location for a photo or to walk across a stage. The Governor’s extended stay-at-home order prohibits group gatherings. I join you in hoping that events can resume in person sooner rather than later, but that time is not now.

Schools and districts across the state have shown incredible creativity over the past few weeks. I have complete faith in your ability to honor graduates through safe, virtual ceremonies and celebrations.”

We are hopeful this directive will not extend beyond May so that we can honor the wishes of the majority of our senior students and parents and hold an in-person graduation ceremony. Going forward, we will continue to take guidance from Governor Pritzker, the CDC, and the Illinois State Board of Education to determine if it will be safe to hold these events. For graduation, more information will come in the event that social distancing restrictions are extended through the month of June and the ISBE extends their directive.

With that being said, we are announcing our schedule for the following events: Graduation, Prom, and Awards Night. We wish to provide our students and their families with as much advance notice to reserve these dates in their calendars in the event they are allowed to take place. Again, we appreciate all of the feedback we received.

Our hopes are to hold these events as they are now scheduled.

Take care & Go Tigers!
