Princeton High School announces the newest member of the Academic and Career Hall of Fame
Princeton High School has selected Dr. Greg Tester for the Academic and Career Hall of Fame. Dr. Tester will be honored on Friday, September 11, during a ceremony in which he will address the student body. Dr. Tester will also take part in the Homestead Festival Parade on Saturday, September 12.
Dr. Tester grew up in Princeton, IL, and graduated from Princeton High School in 2001 and was one of ten Valedictorians. Following High School, he attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL, where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
After Illinois Wesleyan, Dr. Tester attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. While at SIU, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honors society. Only 10% of all students, residents, fellows, and physicians in the US are members. He graduated from SIU School of Medicine in 2009.
He then completed a 3-year residency program in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Upon successfully completing his Internal Medicine Residency, Dr. Tester completed a 3-year fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Health System in Madison, WI. Subsequently, he completed an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Wisconsin Health Systems.
Following completion of his training in 2016, he was hired by SSM Health in Madison, WI as an Interventional Cardiologist, using minimally invasive procedural techniques to treat heart disease. While at SSM Health in Madison, Dr. Tester developed a busy clinical practice, was the co-director of the structural heart program, and was the director of cardiology at St Mary’s Hospital in Janesville, WI. He was also a keynote speaker at the SSM Leadership Conference in 2017. During his time at SSM, he was
named to the “Top Doctors” list in Madison, WI.
In 2020, Dr. Tester returned to his alma mater, UW Health Systems, as an Interventional Cardiologist. There he specializes in both high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions and structural heart procedures, including transcatheter valve replacement and left atrial appendage closure with the Watchman device.
Dr. Tester is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UW Health Systems. In addition to being very clinically active, he is also part of the core education faculty for the division of cardiology, participating in the teaching and education of medical students, residents, and fellows. In 2025, he also assumed the leadership position as the Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program, making him responsible for the education and successful practicum of sub-specialty Interventional Cardiology Fellows at the University of Wisconsin Health System.
Dr. Tester has appeared many times on Madison radio and television, has earned many excellence awards, and is involved with several cardiac charities. He and his wife, Jill, have three children and reside in Madison, WI.
